Not to say there's no value playing against yourself at all, but isn'´t it fundamentally fucked because you pretty much know exactly what the "other player" wants to do next turn?
The only variable is the RNG, really.
Last time I played a game "against myself" was Duelmasters when I was like 9 because none of my friends were into it, and even then after two or three games I got bored of it because there was no real interaction. It's like playing "dodge being punched in the face by yourself"
