Do you remember how all these American/British/German/French retards were saying 20-25 years ago that Putin is a democrat, good guy etc.? Direct comparison was Yeltsin. Drunken, retarded, but at least honest with them on Russian world's view. It took some low-level KGB's spook/Leningrad criminal lying to them, so they felt relief for some time (until Georgia/Crimea/full invasion on Ukraine - depending who exactly we're talking).
