not true, they make small improvements each game, it's just incremental and clearly not as much of a focus as it should be
>can roll in any direction (were locked to cardinal directions only in DeS)
>plunge attack when falling
>power stancing moveset when dual wielding same weapon type
>weapon ability/"ash of war" added so melee has use for magic meter, probably the biggest change
>jump mapped to button press now, needed to dodge some attacks (not required that often)
>jump attacks can now be chained off of a jump instead of forward+r2
it's nothing crazy, but they do add like one new combat mechanic per game
