I found out eventually that my mom had threatened to leave and take me, only me and not my older siblings, back to the US to live with her parents. She had done this when I was young as two and repeated the threat every couple years until they divorced when I was 11. My life would be completely different if she had. I wonder about that. Growing up in the pacific northwest would have been drastically different than what I experienced in Canada.
