Is it a real phenomenon, or a nothingburger? What is the line between appreciation and appropriation? Are all forms of cultural appropriation inevitable? I notice that it's mainly whites and Koreans (mainly K-pop stars) who get scrutiny for "cultural appropriation" of black American culture, whereas the Japanese get praise. Is it cultural appropriation when black Americans larp as black Africans, or is it okay when they do it? What are some historical instances of cultural appropriation vs appreciation? Is it okay to admire some aspects of a culture while disregarding other aspects of the same culture/society?

>Japanese incorporates dreadlocks, hip-hop, funk, and street fashion into their culture
based, appreciation of African American culture

>Koreans incorporate dreadlocks, hip-hop, funk, and street fashion into their culture
cringe, racist cultural appropriation

Why the double standards? Why is it praised when Japanese people incorporate other cultures in their anime or video games, but racist when Koreans do the same in their K-pop or K-drama?
