I used to think "it can't get any worse" but my wow-playing friend saw a similarity to the player pop trend of XIV and WOW circa BFA to shadowlands. Shadowlands seeming to be the worst of WOW's expansions to date made me realize

At the same time the worseness I figure is chiefly in story. In gameplay it's been bad for some time so it's less worse and more 'same as it ever was' and was is 'bad'. I have no angst over the underwhelming gameplay because I just accept that they will never fix that. I wish they could, I really do. But expecting them to do so will lead me nowhere good.
The collapse in players (currently equal-ish to Stormblood before SHB, so it's a drop to 2019 levels) may light a fire in their ass, but more likely is the rent-seeking of product placement they've been going hard in the paint with. But as I said I am so demoralized all I want is a story that is not offensively bad. Just an adequate to good/decent story and I will be fine returning to my HW-SB era playstyle of

8.0 is just my make or break moment, akin to ME3 after DA2 really fucking burnt me. If it is servicable and decent then I will get back to XIV. If it's awful then the tether breaks and I am free.
