why do ERPers continue to congregate on SS13 despite there being so much technical debt in the codebase that the only thing they can reasonably add is new 32x32 sprites and jank erp mechanics?
byond has natively supported higher-resolution sprites, non-tile-based movement, menus, and better graphics/animation/image effects for years now, all of which could enhance erp, it's just that ss13 codebases are built around 2003-era byond code and it would have to be entirely rewritten from scratch to support some of those new byond features.
one could easily make a game that looks like and plays like a multiplayer RPGM h-game with CG scenes or actual sex animations and all that jazz in newer versions of byond but without all the jank and mechanics that ss13 erpers don't engage with like atmospherics. probably the most difficult part would just be making actual sprites and art that isn't a 32x32 pixelated spessman from 2003, but gooners could easily commission or make those assets themselves considering the sheer amount of gooner content that is made every week on the internet. Or are those shitty sprites with inconsistent perspective and archaic text-based erp mechanics really that attractive to some people?

Will it be a waste of time and money if I went for a CompTIA Security+ cert?
Gave up on the idea of getting a development job and want to try getting into IT or cybersec even if it's just like help-desk level shit. Allegedly the cybersecurity job market is supposed to stay growing.
