I'm not familiar with 90s American Sonic and related media like Archie, but that's an interesting similarity to point out. I've noticed that in the 2010s Tails was kinda turned into a "straight man" and more grounded character compared to the less serious Sonic. Maybe this was carried over from Sally

Though I'm not sure Pontac and Graff knew anything about Sonic in general given the way they talked about the series. Also, since mecha Tails and mecha Sally happened around the same time, it could've been just a coincidence
