it looks like they spawned west and took some easy poi's into castle instead of risking the top bosses being too hard for early day 1 then returned there for day 2 after taking care of some other fields
only weird thing is no gaols despite hitting a fort and g church but mb they just got unlucky or didn't check the hidden chests
