That's fucked up, they had to go out their way to NOT refer to it as such. I get they want to keep things within its own series so you don't get too much overlap, but for games like this, we're past the point where you can pretend that Ware and DKC doesn't exist. Pic related should have been the new gold standard with Mario rosters, a little of everything from each of the sibling series within each respective games' boundaries. I think this was the game that caused the guidelines to be created with how Mario's world is portrayed.

I tried to keep this one bumped because that other thread was going so fast, it was only a matter of time before they maxed it out. Plus, there's literally three fate threads and two minecraft threads, another Mario thread could have stayed afloat no problem.
