I wanted to do something with NFC readers and writers but the capacity and speed is less appealing each time I consider it. Aliexpress has nice Chameleon Ultra clones and it feels crushing when 12-22 USD chinkware already obsoleted your project.
NFC has capacity issues and QR is cringe but high capacity. Neither have dynamic signatures and dynamic NFC tags are low capacity again. I have a bunch of plastic NFC cards that are useful to immediately connect any phone to any wifi in the house or store a vcard, but I feel the tech never evolved past that.
Contactless payments are cool but out of spec and not what I want to work on. Apart from a FIDO2 authenticator, a weather station and a few wireless displays in my home, I feel there are no good electronics projects left to do that involve coding. I exited the game when the ESP32 C/S models released and never bothered. STM32F106 is nice, been programming 20 of there and they all work fine as Gnuk HSM for SSH/GnuPG.
I'm probably crazy for believing I still can build something that has actually use for me and normies likewise. Home automation is really just for boomers who think they need to control everything as if they are on deck of the Enterprise D.
Apps and AI ruined everything, just look at the Hacker News front page, it's a joke really.
