or maybe they abandoned the idea that they would ever need to contend with the west on the open seas. let the west come to them.. they're sitting on assets that they can depend on.
but as for the waiting game? i think in time, the enemies of the west can only "turtle" for so long until problems arise. for some nations and regions before others. the problem for them is even the areas that are lush and diverse enough to self sustain without reilance on outside help and resources, their population centers are so concentrated that theres a greater potential fallout. the more people there are, the more problems.
as for land locked nations that have little capacity for agriculture. all we gotta do is wait.
but Russia isn't harmless or impotent so to speak. they've just focused their resources into all of their land based systems, both weapons and defense. needless to say they have things big and small.
the gamer in me can't help but think that because of Russia's gargantuan size, its a sort of double edged sword. its easy to assume that more = better, but thats not always the case with many different things. more land / air means potentially more positives/gains and resources. but it also means more territory to keep secure. and they got all this open space that no one even really ones. which they must keep secure otherwise it becomes a vulnerability. so how can Russia manage all that land AND the sea?
meanwhile the western world is mostly physically separated from the rest of the world. this is why Atlantis AKA The Americas is so awesome. its why our Muslims and Jeets are better classed, and why we are so much safer and better off in the long run despite facing similar immigration issues. all the worst people alive right now exist on that eastern side of the world. but, America maintains a strong ability to take the fight to our enemies, land, air or sea.
Russia can't hold onto all that land forever.
