If you use a CRT only for games and such, it'll last you forever, assuming no electronic faults - though fortunately most electronic faults you'll face are easy enough to fix.
I've been using my NEC FE1250 as my main beater tube close to 5 years now, and seen no degradation whatsoever. It did break down once, but it was just cracked solder joints, trivial thing to repair.
I still have a fucking Sony GDM-F520 sitting in a corner collecting dust, waiting for the day this FE1250 finally blows up. But at this rate this FE1250 will outlive me, and I'll regret never using the GDM-F520 more.
