I think one of the points of the game is that humans and monsters aren't that different from each other, they both just want to live and be free. The monsters resent the humans for being imprisoned underground, and want to do what they can to get out. It is understandable, but it does not make you, the player, wrong for trying to defend yourself. You have no obligation to be friends with someone trying to kill you.

I had a friend complain about the exact same thing, and it is a valid point. Most of them aren't pulling any punches, so it's fair if you try to defend yourself eh? But going out of your way to attack some random monster that did nothing is another thing.

I mean, most humans would probably say the same if the situation was reversed.

I imagine those that attack you do, otherwise, why are they randomly attacking another monster?

I have only played chapter 1 when it came out. I have yet to play the other chapters.
However, my impression of this scene, based on what I've seen, is indeed an allegory for an assault of sorts. It COULD mean that something of the sort happened, or it could not, but the imagery used seemed to imply something like that, what with the flower losing it's petals and Kris moving towards Noelle and all.
Personally, I don't think anything sexual happened, since I doubt either Toby or the majority of the audience wishes to steer things towards that direction, but I believe he might have consciously made a parallel between the soul situation and assault.

Well, this changes things, however...
