Ok for all the slow ones at the back...
Danny Boyle directed 28 days.
Danny Boyle ONLY directed the intro scene of 28 weeks, the scene where the guy leaves his wife in the farmhouse.
After this scene, Danny Boyle was distracted with another movie (sunshine, if I remember correctly) and so the remainder of 28 weeks was directed by some other director and turned into a Hollywood action flick with helicopters mowing down fields full of zombies.
At the end of 28 weeks, they show the infected breaching the channel tunnel and reaching France.
There were some arguments over scripts, so the films did not continue. But now they have resolved the drama and so the films have resumed.
Danny Boyle has said to treat 28 Years Later as a sequel to 28 Days Later, and forget 28 weeks later existed. This part is explained away in writing on the screen that says
>The rage virus laid waste to the UK
>It was driven back from continental Europe
>The UK was quarantined
>Survivors left to fend for themselves (which indirectly explains why the island wasn't nuked.)
