"The alt-right" was the media's first attempt to defuse the dissident right by doing the following:
>Take a diffuse agglomeration of dissident thought and create a label to box it into a "movement", "represented" by a bunch of theretofore literally who e-celebs who overnight were declared to be the "spokespersons" and "thought leaders" of it, in order to give defined targets to attack rather than wrestle with the ideas themselves
>Engineer a bunch of character assassinations and scandals, chief amongst which was Charlottesville, to knock down the hastily set up "leaders"
>Declare "the alt-right" to be "defeated", then finish the job of returning to business as usual by stonewalling Drumpf until he's out of office and we can pretend it all never happened
This of course didn't work, leading to the current situation:
>Tacitly admit that these ideas aren't going anywhere and have only become more popular, necessitating phase two: cooption into the "MAGA movement"
>Sign tapper protocol: have figureheads like Rogan and Musk start to flirt with and dogwhistle to these ideas, formally integrating the "alt-lite" into the now mainstream of the Republican party
>Thielbuxx-boosted figures like Vance, Ramaswamy, and Moldbug permitted entry into "polite discourse"
>Adolf Drumpfler wins a second term on a quasi-ethnonationalist, largely national conservative platform
at which point the trap is sprung and we get
>Elon going on his Christmas meltdown about the desirability of mass H1B immigration and the need to purge le ebil racists
>Various e-celebs coming out of the woodwork to declare that "the MAGA movement" is in fact just zionist civic nationalism
>the James Lindsey brigade declares a fatwa against "the woke right", which he goes to great lengths to avoid defining too carefully but obviously ultimately means "white nationalists"
This too, however, is proving to be a focus grouped wet fart of a "purge", so we'll see what happens on the next episode of Weimerica
