Actually this type of design decision can be based if you implement a story telling centered around 2 different DNA lineages.

But I doubt they did that.

Back in patch 1,7 I could pretty much grab 4-5 gears during a run, sometimes I could grab all 6 gears and fully power them up to level 4.

I guess the developers thought this was too OP.
They changed up things in 2,0 so the Gear events became more rare.

You might need Yuzuha's Sig engine for this build to work optimally though.

The ideal 3rd party member would be a Stunner-Anomaly hybrid who can stun for Yixuan, but also be buffed by Yuzuha's Anomaly buffs.
