Oh really [current blizzard employee] privately told [blizzard content creator] that the game is doing better than ever? Well damn I guess that settles it, they'd have no reason to spin the narrative to suit their ends after all. Shame that despite being [more popular than ever] they just cannot seem to find a way to present that with any actual data. I wonder why, maybe because misrepresenting this with data is actionable and the shareholders would hold them accountable. Surely not that. Surely it's all true, we should take their word for it.

Miao Ying and her siblings were not enough to hold back the tides of Chaos during the End Times, never mind Grimgor Ironhide and his invasion of Cathay. The Dragon Emperor and his forces sailed away, never to be heard from again.

That's one of the few bits of canon we got.

With all the lore invested and built up into Cathay for Total Warhammer 3, it is inconceivable that GW would never touch them again and just kill them off. GW seemed definitly set on making tabletop models for them, but it could have gone one of two directions:

A: Cathay is a faction for The Old World, fully fleshed out

B: Cathay is a faction for Age of Sigmar, fully fleshed out

The Dragon Emperor of Cathay definitly, 100% survived the destruction of the old world, there's a big chance he's actually the dragon-god-father-primogenetor Dracothian. And/or mabye Sotek.

So let's say the launch of The Old World flopped, or it flops some time in the future.

Well bam, there you go! Lore explanation for porting Cathay to Age of Sigmar.
