Carnage isn't that mainstream a name these days but he was nearly as popular as Venom in the 90s, Venom was a character who was popular without Spider-Man, that counts for something regardless of what you think.

I have, and I know, but the fact is most of his rogues have been turned into jokes like "oh god, THIS guy again", only Goblin and Ock command any respect these days and it's been that way for a while. Scorpion could be intimidating, and given his powers, he should be, but he's just a jobber there to look stupid

Batman villains don't get this treatment, my favorite Batman villain is Scarecrow who is notoriously handled poorly and always jobs but somehow even he doesn't feel like a total joke intentionally the way many Spider-Man villains do

Venom stands on his own, and if you disagree, theres no way you aren't either a boomer (not likely) or zoomer who "got into" Marvel via MCU. Venom defines 90s childhood way more than Spider-Man himself does
