TLDR; Its the same reason why Koreans are gods in every competitive game they touch; they LITERALLY have no other option.
Imagine this, youre a korean and you want to get into competitive gaming, but youre told since you were 0 years old that thats a nono and your parents would rather you kill yourself then try again with another kid, so what do you do? You overcompesate, you become the greatest of all time in that particular game and make a living out of it, because if you dont, you are screwed, and your life is over due to how horrid of a society Korea is. Same deal with Japan over getting into anime or art industry.
