Literally the entire problem of 'public finances' is from the following:
>Hey look, we're flush with money due to borrowing a shit load at low interest rates! Let's give people a bunch of free shit to buy votes!
>Oh no, the good times are over but we still have all these statutory vote buying schemes that we made ourselves agree to pay for. Hmmmmm, should we dissolve some of them to save money?
>Naaaaahhhhh, lets just raise taxes on everyone again haha!
>Oh shit, no the good times really are over now we actually can't pay for all the vote buying schemes we wrote into law, should we really consider getting rid of them now?
>...Naaaaahhhhhhh, lets just try and raise taxes again and plug the gap with mass immigration to fudge the GDP numbers, surely that'll bring GILTs and borrowing costs down.
>OH SHIT, NO THE GOOD TIMES REALLY ARE OVER NOW FOR REAL FOR REAL WE MEAN IT OH SHIT THIS IS BAD, shoudl we maybe consider ending some of the vote buying schemes we wrote into law?
>...NNNNAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, just fucking keep going with it mate, something'll work out in the end, just keep raising taxes despite the Laffer curve, just keep doing the same shit despite the Chancellor crying during PMQs, just keep doing the same old shit until the holes in the boat can't be plugged any more and we finally, almost peacefully, touch the hull to the bottom of the ocean floor... Britannia Fin...
Just roll back the statutory spending bollocks. That's it.
