For-profit colleges created most of this debt. They lure in poor and veterans with promises of job leads and futures. They funnel the government money out of their victims. They spend most of it on marketing.

Trump is mad because he lost Sweet vs Devos because he blanket denied all defense to repayment claims that were legitimate against the fraudsters.

Republicans won't hold for-profit colleges accountable for quality so states and students sued various schools/companies and they end up settling while students still have the debt.

Students are allowed to file DEFENSE TO REPAYMENT and the claims MUST be reviewed. Devos didn't want to do her job so the settlement cancelled billions of students debts.
