OTAKU CULTURE used to be about PASSION
PASSION for a series and its characters to the point where you make fansites and doujin works about them. It was a work of love and forums, imageboards, and conventions were a meeting place for where you met up with other like-minded individuals who shared the same passion.
They were tight-knit comminutes that supported one another while gatekeeping posers out.
Now ``otaku culture'' is ripe with "failed normalfags"
General losers and social refuse who aren't here because they want to be, but because they don't have a normal place in the outside world. They care not about watching a bunch of anime and playing video games, they don't have a social sphere and latch onto whatever group is available to them. They have twitter avatars of 2D characters they don't even know the name of and post images of azumanga daioh and other such popular series purely because it's the latest meme, not because they actually watched the show.
They constantly insert outside political opinions into discussion, regardless of what side of the political spectrum it may be considered, because they feel "personally wronged by society" and need to virtue signal to one another.
They will constantly complain about the current "state of society" while truOTAKU couldn't care less about the outside world or 3DPD as long as their latest series has the next episode come out the following week.
Eventually the "hobbyist hangout" just becomes an echochamber for their unrelated views and the actual hobbyists are kicked out. This is present all over 4chan.
