Is Shuji just... Lalah? Or rather, an avatar she created to sort through her trauma and try to influence each new world in her favor?
That would explain why he could make such wild assumptions on her part. Would explain why he was needed as some sort of middleman in resetting each iteration, when Lalah did it on her own in the first place.
More importantly it explains why Machu's pep talk reaching Shuji coincides perfectly with Lalah waking up with a smile on her face, ready to face the world she was rejecting all this time.
