TQ: How do we fix Magic's writing?

For context, R&D has been chasing the "Vorthos" archetype for a long time as an addition to their existing three (Timmy, Johnny, and Spike). However more recently they've declared that it's not actually a demographic they can cater to. Why is that? Because all the supplementary material around Magic is so unbelievably garbage that most people that want to learn more about the lore of the game get driven off once they realize how horrible it is.
At this point the internal feeling seems to be that WotC feels going after the Vorthos is a lost cause, but Hasbro wants them to keep trying for it, because in a rare bout of singular sane decision-making from Hasbro, they realize it's dumb to constantly slap your players in the face by telling them not to get attached to characters and instead just keep consuming product while you never see the characters again for what can be over 10 years (shown with literally any plane that's not Ravnica), if ever, at which point they'll behave completely differently from how you remember because WotC sees them as plot devices rather than personalities. This is likely why projects like the movie and TV series keep getting pushed along despite anyone with brain cells knowing they're a lost cause. Hasbro, for once, sees the real potential in it, but WotC is too fucking stupid to understand what makes a good character because they have their heads too far up their ass with thinking "worldbuilding" is the same as writing a good story.
The real question is why would any artist take up Magic fanart when so many sets are basically one-offs even in its glory days. You liked Ixalan? Eat shit dumbass. Five years to even partially revisit the concept you liked so much. Tarkir? Ten years. Lorwyn? Man you're really fucking lucky planeswalkers got pushed back to it from Time Spiral, because that's likely the only reason you got it at all after 18 years. Mirrodin? Lol we just blew that one up for funsies.
