I'm fine with the way ME2's story was framed, but only because I could ignore it and just enjoy the smaller stories involving the characters. It was kind of refreshing to go from the noble (if sometimes arrogant) Alliance Officer to someone quietly dealing with the underworld to get shit done.
2 is best enjoyed by not thinking too much about the overarching story.
Fuck 3, though, seriously.
