I think its a numbers thing. If they made Smelter Demon have more HP and more damage, he'd be a threat.
People still regularly job against enemies with slow and deliberate movesets. Hell, Erdtree Avatar is a fucking Elite Boss/Castle Boss and I see randoms regularly get OHKO'd by it in spite of being Asylum Demon+.
Shit like Lud & Zallen except they occasionally turn invisible would be an easy plug as a Day 2 boss for Caligo, for example.
