Because their games aren't good anymore.
They've become extremely lazy due to the third-party success of the Switch 1 and no longer think they need to make as many games anymore. Not only that, but the few releases a year they put out are all played extremely safe with nothing interesting about them compared to their Gamecube and Wii predecessors.
We'd never get something as bizarrely fascinating as Super Paper Mario from this Nintendo.

Ironically enough, the waggle forced Nintendo to really put the effort into making a lot fun and interesting first-party titles, since god knows third-party devs ain't gonna touch that shit.
It's a shame the success of the Switch has made them so lazy.
Also people joke about Nintendo "dark" and "edge" with the spongebob rollercoaster meme, which is in many ways true. But you have to admit there was a sort of drama and attempt to be "grand" and "epic" during the Wii era. Twilight Princess, Mario Galaxy, Super Paper Mario, Brawl's Subspace Emissary, all went much harder with their story than any other generation of Nintendo games.
