MOREOVER
Asriel is the only named character in the entire game whose crying is made such a note of as to fit this story from the fourth egg room. It seems very likely to me that the "thing like glass" described here is the missing link between the Knight (which ALSO notably cries) and the shadow crystals, Dark Shard, and it's shadowy form.

Asriel is the Knight.
The Knight is clearly not a normal Lightner. No other Lightner to ever enter the Dark World goes through the transformation or gains the powers it does, not even Gerson changes that dramatically. Its entire body is presumably unreal because, as Susie surmises, it cannot win a fight in the Light World so we already know it is a fraud to some degree. Why not 100%?
Asriel is the crying boy referred to here >>713760668 and the "fallen star" in picrel whose tears were so bitter that they generated something extremely dark, either a/the shadow crystal(s) or whatever glass-like material the Knight and its blade is made of. He is willing to risk the Roaring and hurt people to find Dess, with the help of Carol and Kris, and is working from behind the scenes to open fountains to do so.
