schizo theory: Gaster was the main antagonist of the original timeline before he wiped himself out via fucking with Dark Fountains/the CORE/the theorized Goner Warp Door - when he was retconned out of existence, the timelines pulled other characters to take his role
>Alphys - the Royal Scientist with a tragic past
>Gerson - the quirky old loremaster in Waterfall
>Sans - explaining how soul attack colors work
>Papyrus - puzzlemasterwho doesn't want to be forgotten
>Mettaton - escape from the Underground via a battle-ready body
>Flowey - using the human souls to become godlike
>Asgore - the final boss who wants your soul

meanwhile:
>That's why Alphys is just a teacher in Deltarune
>That's why Hapstablook is stuck hiding in his house all day
>That's why Gerson is fucking DEAD in Deltarune
>That's why Asriel is away at college
In this original sequence of events, Gaster existed for Deltarune's story and hopped to the reborn world along with Sans and Papyrus. His plots would result in a scenario where he becomes strong, enough that he's able to RESET the timeline. Gaster goes mad with power and retcons himself by falling into his creation, with his actions retroactively being handed to different people.

Deltarune as we play it is meant to be an origin story for Gaster and a revelation of the original timeline:interacting with the Forgotten Man and collecting the eggs will trigger Gaster's birth. Gaster does not want us to deal with this "issue" because if Gaster is put back into the original timeline, it creates a never-ending loop.
>Deltarune/Undertale is Gnostic due to pulling from JRPGs (gnostic as fuck) but also from Homestuck, David Lynch, and portal fiction like The Neverending Story/Wizard of Oz/Alice in Wonderland
>Gaster is the Cosmic Egg -the fate of destruction is the joy of rebirth
It's one big reference to Earthbound theorizing with Giygas the whole "abort Gygas" thing - we're going back in time to killGaster in the womb. Crono Trigger style.

is that mamoru oshii, director of angel's egg, a story about transporting a fetus across an oppressive environment?
