The black deer thing is meant to be Dess, or at least what she was.
And it's the only thing Kris kills in the game themself, because they know ERAM is just what's left of Dess fucking with them extremely and is done with their shit by that point.
Think Asriel to Flowey. The Knight/ERAM isn't really Dess anymore, it's what remains of Dess without her compassion.
