ERAM knows Kris very personally and has been watching us the whole time given how it comments on Weird Route from Chapter 2 if you did it. It has to have a very strong connection to Kris throughout all this.
The Knight fits this very well, the only assumptions we have to make is that it can talk and plan more clearly than it has demonstrated so far (which could be something it only does in private), and that The Knight is cruel enough to torture Kris and downplay Noelle being hurt in Weird Route (which could be from Dess being fucking nuts from years in the Dark).
And it fits as to why it gives us the Shadow Mantle and says "we both have work to do" at the end. It was doing all the Sword Route stuff to get Kris and (You) riled up, then it gives you a tool to let you fight The Knight better and have a shot at getting the Shadow Crystal, along with a super weapon for Kris specifically (though Noelle can equip it too, maybe intended for Weird Route stuff).

That just adds to this idea. Both Kris and the Knight know that it's a lost fight, but The Knight in this case wants Kris to fight long enough to crack the Shadow Crystal and Black Shard off. So she makes the Sword Game stuff and puts Kris through a painful game just to see their BURNING EYES before handing off the Mantle which acts as a handicap for the fight they're about to have.

The only issue would be why she needs to have them break it off in the fight instead of giving it to Kris then and there. But that may be because either she CAN'T hold back against them for some reason or because she needs to know they're strong enough before letting them have it.

Any damage caused in the Dark World carries over to the Light World in some way.
