I went back to ZZZ and there are several bad decisions they make throughout the story that cause problems.
>Easily revealing Phaetheon's identity to all the characters. Their secretive nature is one of the proxies' most appealing traits. They're "criminals" despite being good people. One of the highlight scenes is when they secretly help PubSec (Zhuyuan/Qingyu) navigate the Hollow while hiding their identity. Sadly, that's the last time we see them do anything cool like that.
>Eye implant. This is one of the stupidest reasons they come up with for the MC when they reveal their hidden power at the end of 1.4. I don't know...did it feel contrived? Not cool enough? Not powerful enough? Very disappointing.
>Relegating Fairy to the background in 1.6-1.7. This is also a very poor choice in story direction. Fairy is central to Phaethon's power and is deeply tied to the game's story. There are still plenty of ways to use Fairy despite not having a TV mode. One example is communicating with Fairy to navigate from within the Hollow and learn the optimal route. At least the MC didn't become a clueless NPC.
>Revealing the MC's past to Miyabi. This is also very disappointing. The MC's past as a student of the worst criminal in Eridu is a VERY IMPORTANT PLOT POINT. This can create tension with Miyabi in the story. When it's revealed, Miyabi is happy, poof... everything goes away.
>The mayor's revelation and MC's power-up to solve the Aether weakness so they can enter the Hollow. This is bullshit. Absolute bullshit. A hasty decision for the story. Before this, the story was going downhill; this sent it off the cliff.
>Hugo and Vivian. Filler. Useless story. Poor execution.
*I can't comment much on 2.0 as I'm still struggling to get through the story.
