ZZZs hope would be to actually reboot the game into a proper state with changed gameplay, but it won't happen, because the line must go up like you said. Especially when you look at the last update with a big hollow map, where they can't pick what they want from their game. If they are leaning gameplay/action, then the game desperately needs better movement, nothing kills momentum as running across the map and getting locked into location because of one monster, or when you need to build/activate a bridge for a 2 meter jump. They need to redesign movement and combat engagement as a whole before working on maps, but I doubt it'll ever happen.

I still think TV mode was very weak, it wasn't expressive enough in its encounters and surrounding story, the least they could do is give different backgrounds/TV screen images based on chapters you were in, so you could have a better imagination of what kind of surroundings you are in.
Allocation of resources is very questionable, when they work on character animations and jiggles, which are by the way, phenomenal, but your characters will have less screen time than a TV mode.
It feels like they didn't know what to do with "in-between" character bits, so they slapped TV lazily. I mean Nier's hacking sections even felt better than TV mode as a whole, most of it was go from point A to point B, which isn't that much different from go to room B from room A while fighting 10 enemies.

I wouldn't say that. The whole premise of the game, the chaotic space inside the hollows, the HDD system, the main characters as proxies, their side gig running a video store. It was all clearly centered around TV mode.
What I think actually happened is that whoever proposed it originally didn't have either the talent or the time to implement it properly. Perhaps management was demanding more TV content than was feasible to make or perhaps their internal TV team was just incompetent. I think Arpegio Fault was basically their last chance to make it work and they failed that too.
That whole Easter egg puzzle in Arpegio that only rewards you with "Thank you for playing our game!", I think was the last farewell from the TV team before they got axed. I doubt management even knew that was in there.

Again, you can't use 2D animation like it's some end-all, be-all thing for character design. There are things you can't do in 2D animation because 2D NEED to be simpler because it's hard to animate detail as the character or object moves. These gacha games don't need to be like 2D at all, and what you are complaining about is subjective. I don't care about what artists do, but using some artist as an example for ALL gacha characters needing to be simple and easy to translate to 2D animation is extremely flawed because most of porn and fan art nowadays is gacha related. 3D Gacha games don't need to follow the same rules as 2D art.

You're not getting what I mean. It's not "Rules for 2D art", rules for character design don't just flip because of the medium you're using them for. Yes the simplicity of 2D designs are enforced by the medium, but they also have the side effect of just making their designs nicer to look at in general. That aspect is subjective sure, but it's a pretty important thing to care about when your entire media model hinges on showing off characters and making them appealing.

And common gacha design pitfalls like being overdesigned don't matter in porn art because the artists just strip the characters nude anyways.
