Mark Rosewater, the lead designer, had a good idea about "design space" for the longest while, where he basically opposed too many new cards getting released per year, on grounds that there was only a limited amount of interesting card designs that could be done, before quality would deteriorate.
Suits seem to have "convinced" him otherwise at some point, and now many new cards have 5 and more lines of text, giving incredibly niche pay-offs on incredibly specific triggers, which is plain annoying and makes me not even look at all new cards anymore these days, it’s just too exhausting to parse all that.
