FOR NON MAGIC PLAYERS:
This was all marketing bullshit.
When the set launched, even though they were calling it the best-selling set of all time, official stores were all reporting that they were allocated less stock of it than they usually were. So where did it go? Where did "the best-selling set of all time" go if not to official retailers that get allocated stock by Wizards of the Coast?
It was total FOMO bullshit.
And now, Costco has entire pallets of this shit being sold at a discount.
It was all just a marketing scheme to jack up prices. Because "Universes Beyond" which is the name for tie-in sets are not priced higher than normal sets. So they faked a supply and demand disparity to people would be more willing to pay higher prices.
Also, actual Magic players fucking hate Universes Beyond for ruining Magic. It's seeing good sales now because it's a novelty, but in a couple years time people will be fatigued. WotC will be shitting blood when they keep pumping out tie-ins and none of them do as well as projected.
