it's not about random changes, it's about progressing with the rest of the medium. Even shit like dragon quest made more progress than pokemon over that timespan. In general people will badger on about graphics but the structure and design of pokemon has gotten weak as hell. What's the last dungeon or puzzle you remember? Memorable Area? Pokemon games are lacking from a bunch of different angles. Good thing they stumbled into a golden concept so the core can hold things together even with weak support
