The people who cling to RoA1's spritework are fucking deranged contrarians. I will never understand it. I'm one of the many people who refused to give the game a chance for years because I took one look at it and though
>this looks like cheap garbage
I am not opposed to spritework at all and I love good spritework. Metal Slug and KoFXIII are art. There are plenty of games with simplistic spritework that I like. RoA1 simply looked like shit for much of its life (with only later and redesigned spritework looking good).

There's a difference between
>this game is unfun and unfinished
and
>I've been eating the same brand of chicken tenders for 24 years and I refuse to do anything else
Some Melee players will look at a game in which half of the roster is competitively unviable, in which even "viable" characters can't win tournaments, in which multiple characters don't even function correctly, in which an exploit with no counterplay remained unbanned in competitive play for 15 years, and in which the technical precision required demands the use of either modified, Frankenstein'd controllers or a leverless and think
>Ahh... perfection....
>And to think, people just learned how to cheese Fox with DK! There's so much more Melee to be played, bros!
I've played Melee since I was in grade school. I've watched it since the mid 00s when crusty-ass competitive recordings began popping up on YouTube. I went to my locals. I've played enough fucking Melee, and I've definitely watched enough considering all we're left with for the foreseeable future is hbox. I'm going to keep playing netplay with friends, but I can't imagine looking at Melee in its current state and thinking it has a future.
>tournament series dying
>entire organizations dissolving
>sponsorships being pulled left and right, even for top players
>tournament attendance down everywhere
At a certain point you need to let go and move the fuck on from a dying game with a dying community co-opted by SJWs and content creators.
