I don't get Deux's popularity. Nothing seemed interesting about her, and we've seen her character archetype dozens of times before in Gundam. The only thing she was good for was the shock value of an emaciated 11-year-old Pokémon character going through withdrawals and getting brutally crushed by a OYW veteran like a roach, and the directing treating it like it's not a big deal. We need to see more of that shit in Gundam to really drive in how fucked the setting and people are. It's classical boomer anime edge that verges on being funny, like Elfen Lied or End of Evangelion that I sorely miss in this watered down age.

Looking back, it's really weird, because it goes against the tone the anime was setting in the second half hard. Deux was where GQX peaked in edge. It's hard to top an orphan whose been hacked apart and brainwashed into being a super soldier who then goes on a rampage killing thousands of civilians before being put down without any sympathy or comment. In any other series, this would be the tonal turning point, where things get a lot darker. Instead, GQX gets a lot more bombastic, silly, and lighter in the second. Except for Kycilia, not a single major character died in the second half. Deux was just a really bizarre character overall, and I don't know if her inclusion improved the anime in retrospect. I think they could have maintained better tonal consistency, either by giving her a Shiiko style sendoff or replacing her with a more generic character.

She is very shallow, and I really dislike her. She's a bait character, because looks the way she does and says some things that you think will be plot points, but then immediately dies. It's the mecha equivalent of Schwarzette immediately dying after all the buildup.
The major issue is that the design is way too cutesy and harmless for the writing. Like this just looks too silly to take serious. It's like a creepypasta of a Pokémon or sonic character that gets "twisted" or hurt in a subversive way to what their harmless look says, but it just really looks jarring and tryhard edgy. UC Gundam can be extremely dark, but it was never edgy. Even Victory never got as edgy. The characters and directing would react and linger and be affected by horror rather than just ignoring it because they're so radical.

She never even interacts with the main cast despite being a teenager like them and being able to sparkle. It's weird. It's like there was a half-built story beat that went nowhere. That's probably why she feels incomplete, unlike Shiiko or Diablo Man.
