Devs that think it's a good idea to just make it so that you engage with the game less across a broad spectrum of mechanics are either lazy or not invested in their work.

Good game devs stretch engagement with individual mechanics to the extreme. They don't remove your ability to play the game piece by piece, they saturate your ability to manage individual mechanics until the breaking point. Most devs have not learned this lesson yet.
