I like the Amphoreus story and cast but that's because I'm very deliberately looking past it's flaws because what I like is good enough for me to ignore the faults. I'm very excited to go through the story every time the patch drops and I do it all in one go because I can't put it down.
The setting, cast, overarching plot are all good to me but the individual scenes that compose the story are lacking. I don't feel satisfied until it's finished unlike other good things I read like some of F/GO's chapters where I feel satisfied after just reading a segment of the story.

The overarching themes are conveyed pretty well. Amphoreus is a planet about memories so they explore some cool stuff with that as a theme such as Castorice's arc about "endings", the looping mechanism, the Hyacine/Cipher duo of how a dirty past got redefined into something beautiful, Aglaea's stuff about slowly losing your grip on who you once were, Tribbie's mini arc about hope. It's all good stuff conceptually.
A lot of the twists were predictable with foreshadowing. but others came as genuine surprises. There's a healthy dose of foreshadowing to make speculation interesting. and make big reveals cathartic.
Phainon's character arc is cool on paper, he's someone who feels the need to be a hero but really doesn't want to and is kind of a failure anyways. The execution of that plot is piss poor though.
The Trailblazer is playing a very active role in the story unlike China. Shit's happening explicitly because they're there and they serve a narrative role as someone who is recording these stories in their splendor and tragedy. Dan gets a little bit of this too but only really with Hyacine.
The fact that the flamechase journey is half done helps convey a sense of dread but also showcases how the AE showing up is changing the course of history in a big way.

The pacing is whack, the production value is shit, a lot of the lore is tucked away behind Mem's book, the execution of a lot of things leaves much to be desired, I could go on.
But for all it's faults, there's some really cool shit hiding behind the grime that I find enjoyable. It helps that I'm easily pleased by something that I like.

For reference, Baldurs Gate 3 story (no gameplay) is around 20hrs and Expedition 33 is around there too, Dragon Age Origins? Also 20-25hrs
The only game I can think of that has actual 70hrs of story is Persona 5, and even then the presentation and dialogue are vastly different than the ones in HSR.
Penacony had issued but at least it was a short 15-20hrs story, but now Amphora has the exact same issues except is a 70hrs story presented in the absolute worst way possible.

It's honestly quite the shame that as much as people hate on the writers, they're forced to compromise their presentation to keep up with sales hype and time the story beats prematurely to keep up with the characters on banner. Plus I've heard they get paid for the amount of text they shit out so length is incentivised. Like yeah the writing's subpar but the whole shebang about the presentation may very well be the fault of how narrative is inherently linked to monetisation here. I think Amphoreus suffers from being in a gacha with HSR's monetization, they have to do arcs with two people at a focus in specific timings and orders so you can sell those two characters to you in that one patch before they vanish.
Sometimes it works well like with Cipher and Hyacine sharing a patch but Castorice and Anaxa's patch felt weird because it was trying to sell you on two characters with very different arcs for example. the Mydei-Tribbie patch wasn't as bad because at least both of them had a forward looking premise for their arcs in addition to getting a lot of legwork in 3.0 just before it.

I can see a decent chunk of issues being resolved if the medium was different, shorter but more frequent patches that don't need to shill a part 2 character.

What do these have anything to do with the actual plot and the TB? And i mean the scepter, march, memokeepers, TBs past and the genius society. My problem is that it all feels very disjointed to the point where it has no real reason to exist and it makes it hard to care about anything that's going on.
Even when judging amphoreus' story on its own, i just feel like this should be in another game and i have to disagree on the TB being an active participant

The plot relation to the rest of the HSR universe is lacking yeah. I'm viewing Amphoreus in it's own little bubble like how it's physically seperated in universe. The Genius society and March stuff feels very vague and secondary despite being things that should matter more but until we actually know what the fuck they keep foreshadowing at I'm only really able to look at the isolated events of Amphoreus as it's own self-contained story.
TB has an active role but could also definitely be replaced by a different character who happened to unlock the Mem benefits and was a strong fighter. There's not much of the trailblaze on display despite them being vital for a lot of the plot progression so I see what you mean, "It's the TB but it doesn't have to be" meanwhile Penacony and Belobog very much hinged on the TB being the TB for things to play out the way they did so I see what you mean. You will have enough jades to potentially e6 Saber with a bit of luck if you save everything for her. With all the quests and events and chests up to now. It will be just a question of how much work you want to put in collecting and doing everything. You could play everyday starting now and probably won’t get current on the main story before Saber releases. Also buy the 5 dollar pass. It’s the most bang for your buck.
