addendum, I will say Undertale is a bit on the preachy side to the point of it being fucking aggravating. I do see why people take the game at face value because Toby really fucking wants to hammer the point home of subverting rpg tropes

Undertale does have flaws as fiction using its metanature to bash people over the head with its points. Especially with how tedious and annoying genocide is. Its sorta like how Pathologic despite being a good game sucks to fucking play. Like despite it only possible to be done in a video game i still dont wanna play genocide and spend hours mindlessly killing everything so i can fight two bosses and then have to delete chara so i dont brick pacifism.
By taking its world and views upon it so seriously it makes it hard to actually see the totality of the picture because Toby thinks treating game as content to be consumed is bad.
Its very much up its own ass at times.
