Tell them to give up. If you've been drawing for more than a year and aren't at least /int/ then you have some sort of learning disability that makes it impossible. If they were actually capable they would have at least studied SOMETHING by now that would have helped.
Starting out learning to draw is when it's easiest to learn because you just learn new concepts all the time you should be able to immediately apply just by someone explaining it to you. The higher you go in art the more frustrating it gets to learn new things because everything new you learn becomes about little novel and situational details that are easily forgettable. You start to plateau
