Lossy/lossless is the least important thing. The most important thing is how it was mastered. The rule of thumb is old good new bad. An mp3 made from an old master will sound better than lossless new master.

Are YOU retarded? Compressed tracks sound worse at every volume. This is why you don't just download flacs, but specifically search original releases. Because newer releases will be compressed.
