To some extent you could say taxes are similar when they spend it on anything other than improving the lives of taxpayers
In theory though, taxes are supposed to help society and you indirectly
1) Shareholders
2) Creditors
3) Overpaid execs
4) Rent-seeking property owners
These people do literally nothing productive and STEAL money generated by workers.

Kill yourself my man.
I'll enjoy you rigging you up on the day of the guillotine.

What purpose is there to life in the modern capitalist western world?
Even if you have a wife and children... so what?
The only sense I can think of hedonistic pleasures until you die
Even if you believe in God this still seems to be true
Capitalism has truly sucked the entire soul out of being human
Your work makes shareholders, creditors, overpaid execs, and rent-seeking property owners richer.
It's not legal to work for anything other than the goal of good-boy points that you can trade for the means of survival, including housing because being homeless or building your own house is llegal

Let me try to describe capitalism in terms you can understand
It's basically like a system where a beekeeper takes 95% of the honey bees make.
The bees made the honey, the beekeeper did literally nothing, but he's taking 95% of their honey.
You can think of the bees as all workers in the world, honey as all value they generate, and the beekeeper as shareholders, creditors, overpaid execs, and rent-seeking property owners.
