my first exposure as a kid to The Elder Scrolls was a Game Informer magazine piece on Oblivion's Shivering Isles expansion that had just come out. All the screenshots and promo art were picrel and since I was big into LoTR and Forgotten Realms all I could think of was "what's with all these manfaced tranny looking Chinese elves?" I didn't read the article because the images were so baffling, I just went on thinking bethesda was a shitty chinese slop company aping western fantasy rpgs
Many years and many hundreds of hours of Skyrim later did I even bother finding out that Oblivion just looks like that
