I played from the Gold Rush & Medic Update to the Mann-conomy Update, starting on 360 with The Orange Box. I really disliked the growing emphasis on cosmetics, and the addition of gambling in the Mann-conomy Update cemented my decision to quit.

I've tried to play it on-and-off over the years, but nothing comes close to the experience of playing on old community servers. I know that servers like Uncle Dane's exist, but these are filled with players with thousands and thousands of hours in the game. I liked the community servers I played on because they were a healthy mixture of n00bs, average players, and Gregors. I did not like matchmaking system when I was forced to engage with it. I also do not like the modern player base of TF2.
I enjoyed the Deadlock alpha when I tried it and I hope the game develops in a healthy, fun direction. It's the first time I've felt enthusiasm for a team-based competitive multiplayer game since TF2 and Titanfall 2, even though it's obviously much more competitively-oriented than TF2.
