it's integral to the barrel, a wafered bull barrel, it's a feature unique to a few Wilson Combats and Nighthawks. The Wilson Elite Professional and Nighthawk Predator for example. It's extra weight on the barrel and looks cool, doesn't really do anything other than that. Nighthawk claims it increases the barrel lock up at the front.
