McFarlane just made poor business decisions all around. No company becomes successful because of scarcity of goods that consumers want to buy.
Someone like Taylor Swift or Coldplay can profit from bootlegs of their concert films, or from high ticket prices due to scarcity of concert tickets, but an act like the Rolling Stones can go out into their 70s and probably their 80s and perform decades old songs and still sell out a concert hall/arena, etc.
McFarlane isn't even re-releasing popular 'scarce' figures the way a comic book company does a second or third print release of a popular floppy, or the way a studio like Marvel or Sony might benefit - the Tobey Spider-Man movies are about to be re-released in theaters for a third time this fall, and this re-release will probably make several million dollars. Marvel wouldn't want to make and release a new movie and just make say $2-4M, but old films, films that are already paid for, that need minimal promotion to still sell out theaters? That's just extra dosh on the bottom line.
McFarlane isn't doing or getting any of that.
He's just an idiot thinking that helping scalpers make money or disappointing and - worse - annoying consumers and fans - will somehow make him rich.
And he's not just wrong, he's a stupid idiot.
