Unironically we would've had SA3 if the Dreamcast didn't die. It was already in pre-production by the end of SA2's development. The original planning documents were ignored until right before Sonic 2006 released, when they were unearthed and development rebooted. However, the gameplay got so far removed that it got rebranded as Sonic Unleashed (Sonic World Adventure).
